William Vanscoy was born in San Mateo California (1946) and attended and graduated from the Brooks Institute School of Photography (1976-1979), with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He worked as a professional commercial product photographer in Los Angeles (1979-2004) and has displayed and promoted fine art images since 1996.

After changing to large-format view cameras, he embraced manmade and natural landscape, attempting to emulate artists like Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. While working in Los Angeles as a commercial photographer, Vanscoy stayed connected to his own fine art, taking time to photograph in the American Southwest and Europe. In 2002 he made his final commercial image and moved to the southern coast of Oregon

Beyond the sea really is a deeply emotive print, with it's colours emphasised by the silver trim and black frame.
